Actions: Clears heat and resolves toxicity, drains fire, and unblocks the bowels.
Chinese Symptomology - For acute red eyes, sore throat, mouth or tongue sores, dark, rough urination, and restlessness and heat in the heart and diaphragm. Frequently applied to the treatment of toxic swellings in the upper body, sties, and conjunctivitis. It is also used to treat both internal and external acute ear infections.
Western Symptomology - This formula is more balanced than the principal formula, Huang Lian Jie Du Tang, in that Ge Gen and Tian Hua Fen engender fluids and offset the fluid-damaging effects of the internal heat pathogen and the bitter herbs in the formula.
