Description
Ping Wei San is a classical formula that dries dampness, strengthens the Spleen, and harmonizes the Stomach. Traditionally, it is indicated for poor appetite, bloating, nausea, and diarrhea due to damp-cold obstruction of the Spleen and Stomach. In modern functional use, it is commonly applied for chronic digestive disorders, postprandial fullness, nausea, and mild edema associated with Spleen-Stomach dampness and Qi deficiency.

Traditional Indications
Damp stagnation of the spleen and stomach, epigastric and abdominal distention and fullness, no thought of eating or drinking, a bland feeling in the mouth and lack of taste, vomiting and nausea, acid eructation; a heavy, encumbered feeling in the extremities, easy fatigue and a desire to lie down.

Typical symptoms include:

  • Abdominal bloating, distension, or fullness
  • Damp-cold or dampness obstructing the Spleen and Stomach
  • Fatigue, heavy sensation in the limbs
  • Loose stools or diarrhea
  • Nausea, vomiting, or belching
  • Pale tongue with thick, white coating; slippery pulse
  • Poor appetite or aversion to food

Modern Clinical Applications
Acute and chronic gastritis, gastrectasis, gastric ulcer, peptic ulcer, indigestion, especially pediatric indigestion, gastric neurosis, obesity, chronic pancreatitis, and parasitic diseases.

Commonly applied in contemporary use for:

  • Chronic gastritis or indigestion with bloating
  • Food stagnation and postprandial fullness
  • Gastrointestinal weakness after illness
  • Mild edema or heaviness associated with Spleen Qi deficiency
