Description
Chai Hu Shu Gan San (Bupleurum Powder to Spread the Liver) is a classical formula that disperses constrained Liver Qi, harmonizes the Blood, and alleviates pain. It is traditionally used for flank pain, abdominal bloating, belching, irritability, and irregular menstruation due to Liver Qi stagnation. In modern clinical practice, it is widely applied for stress-related digestive disorders, PMS, tension headaches, and mood disturbances associated with emotional constraint.
Traditional Indications
This formula is indicated for constraint of Liver Qi, often due to emotional stress or frustration, leading to stagnation and impaired flow of Qi. Chest, stomach duct, breast, and/or rib-side distention and pain, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and/or dysmenorrhea.
Typical symptoms include:
