Description
Bu Zhong Yi Qi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction aka Ginseng & Astragalus) is a classical formula that tonifies Qi of the Spleen and Stomach Qi while raising Yang Qi to counteract sinking, lift prolapse and treat sinking of Qi, and support immune function and resilience. Traditionally, it is used for fatigue, poor appetite, weak voice, organ prolapse, and chronic diarrhea. In modern clinical settings, it is frequently used to support people recovering from illness or surgery, those with chronic fatigue, hypotension, or recurrent infections, and conditions characterized by Spleen Qi deficiency with sinking Yang.
Traditional Indications
Fatigue, lack of strength, dizziness standing up, easy bruising, shortness of breath, possible lack of appetite, possible loose stools, prolapse of the stomach, rectum, uterus, bladder, and fever
Typical symptoms include:
- Chronic low-grade fever or intermittent fever worse with exertion
- Fatigue, weakness, or lethargy (especially after exertion)
- Poor appetite, loose stools, abdominal distention
- Prolapse of organs (stomach, uterus, rectum) or chronic diarrhea
- Shortness of breath, reluctance to speak, weak voice
- Spontaneous sweating or susceptibility to colds
