Mo Yao is typically used in conjunction with Ru Xiang, as the two herbs compliment and enhance each other. Mo Yao is stronger for dispersing blood and purging blood stasis, therefore it is more commonly used for epigastric pain where there is qi stagnation and blood stasis. Ru Xiang is stronger at activating circulation of blood and relaxing tendons, therefore it is more commonly used for musculoskeletal aches and pains and bi zheng (painful obstruction syndrome) from wind and dampness.

Cautions & Contraindications

  • Bitter taste may cause nausea and vomiting in sensitive stomachs
  • Dosage should be decreased if being used in conjunction with Boswellia
  • Not to be used during pregnancy
