- Due to Huang Lian being bitter, cold and drying it should be used with caution in cases of cold, yin or yang deficiency, Spleen or Stomach deficiency.
- Although Huang Lian is relatively safe it may connected to abdominal fullness, allergic rash, allergic reaction, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausua, palpitations, red blood cell reduction, shortness of breath, tinnitus or vomiting.
