Primary Traditional Functions
Adaptogen, Immune Stimulant, Longevity Tonic
Maitake has traditionally been used in the diet in China and Japan and to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, HIV/AIDS and cancer. The powerful activity in Maitake is due to Beta 1,6 glucan which is a protein bound polysaccharide. In 2009 Memorial Sloan-Kettering conducted laboratory studies in addition to there being other small uncontrolled studies, all showing that Maitake extract slows breast cancer tumor growth and stimulates the immune system. There is preliminary data suggesting Maitake might be useful to induce ovulation in women with hormone imbalances that prohibit ova release, aka polycystic ovarian syndrome.
