Dried Ginger is used in Chinese herbalism primarily to warm up the Stomach and Spleen and therefore to improve digestion and relieve cold conditions associated with these organs, which generally cause poor digestion. Ginger warms the Spleen and Stomach to dispel cold from the middle burner. This cold can be from invasion of exterior cold or Spleen yang deficiency. Some common manifestations include abdominal and epigastric coldness and pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Also dry heaves or vomiting saliva from accumulation of cold in the Stomach.
